MANORAMA

Bollywood actress Manorama was active  for six decades in the film industry and was   entered as a child artist in films as Baby Iris.
Her real name was 'Erin Issac Daniel' and was born on August 16, in Lahore.
After acting in child roles for many years she acted in lead roles of some films and after her marriage with actor Rajan Haksar she confined to character roles.She was brilliant to portray villainous Aunt  roles,Comedy roles and mostly handled character roles with a comedy touch.Her comedy aunties in films like Half ticket were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience in the early films and later she got accolades for films like Seeta aur Geeta,Ek Phool Do Maali,Do Kaliyan' etc in such kind of roles.
Manorama was a trained singer and dancer and her earlier Punjabi film like 'Lachcha' in lead roles  were super hits.Some of her well appreciated films include 'Dus Lakh,Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje,Mujhe Jene Do,Mehboob Ki Mehndi,Caravan,Bombay to Goa,Lawaris' etc.
As a child artist she acted in the film 'Seeta' as the childhood role  of Princess Kaushalya.
In the movie 'Annapurnar  Mandir' she depicted Devi Annapurna' and in the 1938 film 'Hal Bangla' she acted in an important role.
After partition she came to Bombay and there she was introduced to Producers and Directors by actor Chandramohan.
In the super hit film 'Ghar Ki Izzat'(48) she acted as the sister of Dilip Kumar.
Gope,Jevan Mumtaz Shanti etc acted in it.
'Parineeta' was a hit film of Ashok Kumar,Meena Kumari as the lead pair directed by Bimal Roy in 1953.
She portrayed Lata's(Nanda) Sister-in-law in the film Bhabhi(57) in which Balraj Sahni,Nanda,Shyama,Omprakash,Durga Khote,Jagdeep etc acted.
In the film 'Shaadi' she acted along with Balraj Sahni,Manoj Kumar,Dharmendra etc as the character Mrs.Motilal.
In the 1964 film 'Raj Kumar' she acted as 'Maharani Kalavanti' in which the Maharajah was portrayed by Prithviraj Kapoor.Shammi Kapoor,Sadhana,Pran,Omprakash,Achala Sachdev etc were the other actors.
She acted along with Gemini Ganesan,S.A.Asokan,R.S.Manohar etc in the Tamil film 'Vallavanukku Vallavan'(65).
In the Dev Anand film 'Gambler'(71) directed by Amarjeet, she played the role as Ram's(Sudheer) Aunt.
Her mental patient role in 'Naya Din Nayi Raat,Aunt's role in Seeta Aur Geeta,Mamiji in 'Dulhan', Kaushalya in 'Do Musafir' etc received accolades.
She acted as 'Madhumati' in the 2005 film 'Water' directed by Deepa Mehta.
Her husband Rajan Haksar was an actor and film Producer and after several years living together they got divorced.
Her daughter acted in lead role of Suraj aur Chanda  opposite Sanjeev Kumar but quit films.She  is married to an Engineer and lives in the Gulf.
Manorama died on 15 February 2008 in  Mumbai.

A.K.HANGAL

It was two years back, on 26 August 2012 that A.K.Hangal  left this world for his eternal abode.May be since he acted mostly as Father, Grandfather ,Uncle etc his death felt as if the departure of a member of the family not only to film workers but also for the viewers.His skillful and quite natural  acting talents constructed a link which attached him to the hearts of the spectators.
                   A.K.Hangal( Avtar Kishan Hangal) was born in a Kashmiri Pandit family and had spent his childhood in Peshawar.He was an active participant of Indian Freedom Struggle from 1929 to 1946.
He was involved with the theatre group of IPTA along with Balraj Sahni,Kaif Azmi etc and was jailed for two years from 1947 to 1949 for his Communist activities.
He later acted in many plays in India from 1949 to 1965 and his film entry was at the age of 50 with the Basu Bhattacharya's film 'Teesri Kasam' in 1966.He continued to act in films depicting  character roles.
His roles in films like 'Aina,Namak Haram,Sholay,Chit Chor,Balika Badhu,Guddi,Kora Kagaz,Aandhi,Tapasya'Avtar' etc earned critical and viewers accolades.
In Rajesh Khanna films like 'Aap Ki Kasam,Amardeep,Naukri,Prem Bandhan,Phir Wohi Raat,Kudrat,Aaj Ka MLA, Ram Avtar,Soutela Bhai' etc his roles were excellent.
In the 1969 film 'Saat Hindustani' A.K.Hangal acted as a doctor along with Utpal Dutt,Madhu,Amitabh Bachchan,Shahnaz etc and the film was directed by K.A.Abbas.
In "Heer Ranjha' directed by Chetan Anand he acted as a court Maulvi.
In the film 'Anubhav'  A.K.Hangal acted as 'Hari' and this was a nice film of Jaya Bhaduri.
In the well acclaimed film 'Guddi' in which Jaya Bhaduri acted in title role A.K.Hangal played the role of her father.
In the film 'Mere Apne' he acted as a College Principal.In the film "Jawani Diwani' also he acted as a College Principal.
















He was 'Professor Choudhary' in 'Saath Saath'  and in the film Kora Kagaz acted 
 as Principal Gupta.
His role as 'Bipinlal Pandey' in the super-hit film Namak Haram of 1973 in which Rajesh Khanna appeared along with Amitabh Bachchan earned good response from critics and viewers.
His role in Sholay earned accolades as well as the lover father 'Pitamber Choudhary' in 'Chitchor'.His role as 'Masterji' in 'Balika Badhu' was also nice.
In the film 'Aina' in 1977 he portrayed excellent  acting skill for the character as 'Ram Shastri'.
In the film 'Naukri'(78) directed by  Hrishikesh Mukherjee he acted as father of the lead actor Rajesh Khanna.
In another Rajesh Khanna film 'Amardeep' he portrayed 'Ramu Kaka'.
In the 1984 film 'Sharabi' he played the blind father of Meena(Jaya Pradha).The film had  Amitabh Bachchan as  the hero and  was  directed by Prakash Mehra.
In the 2005 film 'Paheli' directed by Amol Palekar he acted as 'Jeevraj'.Sharukh Khan and Juhi Chowla paired in this movie.
A.K.Hangal passed away on 26 August 2012.

JOHNNY WALKER

Johnny Walker was born in Indore as 'Badruddin Jamaluddin Kazi'  in the year 1926 and his father was a mill worker there.When the mill was closed for ever the family moved to Mumbai where Badruddin was engaged in many odd jobs to find bread for himself and to assist his family.Later he got the job as conductor in bus services of 'BEST' in Mumbai.Meanwhile he appeared in small roles in films and Balraj Sahni happened to see his mocking a drunkard which he got impressed in  and informed Gurudutt who was looking for such a character for his film 'Baazi'.That was the well noted role which he acted in Hindi film for the first time  and it was Guru Dutt who gave  him the screen name as 'Johnny Walker'.
He acted in over 300 movies in his acting career mostly as a Comedian and in those days the comedian role would go parallel with the protagonist role  and would have importance in the story which enjoyed equal importance as the hero role itself.This was the case in almost all languages like in Tamil,Malayalam,Telugu etc also.
In Malayalam films Adoor Bhasi,Bahadoor pair  along with Sreelatha would be an essential part of most of the Prem Nazir films and Adoor Bhasi's character would be Prem Nazir's close friend.In Tamil also there were successful comedy pairs who were of much importance in many super-hit films of legendary stars.
When the importance of Comedy actors became less, Johnny walker took a break of twelve years from films.He acted in Chachi 420 after a long gap of 12 years during which he was successfully engaged in the business of precious and semi-precious stones.
Johnny Walker appeared in all but one of Guru Dutt films and had good acquaintance  with that genius film maker.
The audience loved his acting style,his cheerfulness, his dancing skill,his pencil mustache, as well as his squeaky voice.He was a singer also and sang many songs  in films.
He spotted his future wife 'Noorjehan'(a sister of actress 'Shakeela') while the recording of  a song and she was also a singer  along with him.
He received Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film 'Madhumati'.
He received Filmfare Best Comedian Award for the film 'Shikar'.
Johnny Walker passed away on 29 July 2003.

AUGUSTINE

Augustine was a popular Malayalam film actor who acted in over 100 well noted  films in  supporting roles and character roles.He effectively portrayed several negative characters and comedy characters also.His serious characters like Police Officers with a comedy touch was well received and much appreciated.
Augustine was born on 30 July 1955 at Kodencherry in Kozhikode.He was a stage actor when he got a good role in Sathyan Anthikkad's film 'Gandhi Nagar 2nd Street in 1986.He had  small appearances in two or three films earlier but he got credit for the first time  and people recognized him in the film Gandhi Nagar 2nd Street which was a super hit film in which Mohan Lal,Srinivasan,Karthika etc acted in prime roles.
In 1986 itself he acted in the super hit film 'Aavanazhi' directed by I.V.Sasi in which Mammootty was the hero.
He was part of several well noted films during those period.
In 1991 he acted in the film 'Inspector Balram' which was a successful film and played the character  'Ummar'.
In the mega hit film of Suresh Gopi 'Commissioner' which was directed by Shaji Kailas his character as 'Vattappara Peethambaran' was well received.
His roles in films 'Devasuram' 'Ayal Katha Ezhuthukayanu' 'Summer in Bethlehem'  etc were all unforgettable.









In the film 'Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu' he acted as the character 'Gangadharan'.
In the blockbuster successful film 'Aaraam Thampuran' in 1997 which was directed by Shaji Kailas, his role as 'Bappu' received accolades.
His role 'Varghese' in the film 'Pattanathil Sundaran' was also nice.
His role in the film 'Kazhcha' directed by Blessy also drew much attention.
In the film 'Katha Parayumbol' (2007), Augustine's role as 'Scariah Thomas' earned much accolades and appreciation.
He acted in 'Nakhangal' directed by Suresh Krishna and in 'Kadal Kadonnoru Mathukutty' directed by Ranjith in 2013.
Augustine suffered a stroke in 2009, but he recovered from it and was continuing his acting career.Augustine but passed away on 14 November 2013.
His daughter Ann Augustine has acted in several films.
