MADANPURI

Madanpuri was a  favourite actor  for  Directors,Producers and of course the audience as well because they all loved him because  of  his exceptionally good acting skill to portray any kind of variety  character  roles like     a  poor villager,  wealthy businessman or  industrialist,a criminal or a Police Officer,Cruel Villain, Gangster ,Loving Father,Uncle etc  and never was stereotyped in his career.From early 40's to mid 80's he was in great  demand in the film industry and had acted in more than 400 films.He took pains to portray his characters as natural as he could and so he was one of the character actor ( who also played many villain roles) who could act in large number of films per year.He acted in more than 10 films each  in the years 1967,68,69,70 and 71.In the year 1972  he acted in more than 18 films and in more than 20 films each  in 1979,1980 and 1981.In 1982 and 83 he appeared in more than 15 films each .This is a rare phenomenon achieved by only a few actors in Bollywood films.
Madan Puri was born to S.Nihal Singh Puri and Ved Kaur in Punjab on 30 September 1919.He was the first cousin of legendary singer/actor K.L.Saigal.
His debut film was 'Khazanchi' in 1941 and he played a small role in it  as a Co-cyclist in the song scene 'Sawan ke Nazare Hai' along with Janki Das.
He was well noted for his role in the film 'Ahinsa'(46) and 'Kuldeep(46) in which he acted along with Bhudo Avani.Omar Khyyam and 1857 were also released in that year.
In the film  'Vidya' which was released in 1948,  Dev Anand was the hero and Suraiya, heroine in title role as Vidya.Madanpuri acted as Vidya's father when he was only 29 years old.
He was part of many classic films of 1950's  like 'Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje' which was directed by V.Shantaram.
In 1958 he acted in the super hit film 'Howrah Bridge' directed by Shakti Samanta.
He acted in films like 'Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu,Mahatma Kabir' etc also.
He made his striking presence in the social dramas,family dramas of the 60's,the art and parallel films,action films,angry young man phase,and romantic films of 70's and 80's.
His younger brother was actor Amrish Puri who is also unforgettable  as a strong villain in Bollywood cinema.
Madan Puri died on 13 January 1985 due to heart attack.
Many of his films were  released after his death like Santosh in 1989 and Lakhpati in 1991.
