ABHI BHATTACHARYA

Abhi Battacharya was a famous actor of Hindi and Bengali cinema and was very active during 50's and 60's.He was born in 1921.
He acted in several mythological  films out of which his roles as Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna were mostly appreciated and loved by the audience.
Abhi Bhattacharya also acted in many social theme films and films like 'Yatrik'(52),Jagriti(54),Anuradha(60), and Subarnarekha(65) needs special mention and are still remembered.
He worked with noted directors like 'Guru Dutt,Satyan Bose,Bimal Roy'etc.
He started with Bombay Talkies and the first film was 'Naukadubi' in 1947 which was based on a novel by Rabindranath Tagore.It was directed by Nitin Bose.
He played Lord Vishnu in films like 'Tulsi Vivah,Vishnu Puran,Hari Darshan,Kisan aur Bhagwan'  and played Lord Krishna in Mahabharat.
In 1955 he acted in title role in the film 'Jagatguru Shankaracharya'.Sulochana Chatterjee was the female lead.
Guru Dutt was the director of 'Sailab' in 1956.He acted in supporting role.
He played negative roles in film 'Memsaab' in which Vinod Khanna and Yogita Bali acted in main roles.He handled negative role in Dharmendra film 'Ishq Par Zor Nahin'.
He was inclined to spirituality by his association  with Amia Roy Choudhary.He wrote a book narrating his experiences with Amia Roy Choudhary titled 'Destiny with Dadaji".
He received Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1956 for 'Jagriti'.Satyan Bose was the director of this film.
Abi Bhattacharya died in  1993 at Bombay.
