Mac Mohan was a veteran character actor of Bollywood films who acted in more than 200 films and worked for a long span of 46 years.He has also acted in villain roles in many of these films and some of them became immortal like the 'Sambha', the sidekick of Gabbar Singh of the blockbuster film 'Sholay'.
Mac Mohan was born in Karachi as Makhijaney on 24th April 1938 and he came to Mumbai to become a cricketer.He was attracted to the theatre and was trained in acting from the Filmalaya School of acting, Mumbai.
He forayed into film field as the assistant of director Chetan Anand.As an actor his debut was film  'Haqeeqat' in 1964.
He reached to the pinnacle of popularity with the portrayal of dacoit 'Sambha' in the super duper hit film 'Sholay' in 1975.He also grabbed the same attention as 'Gabbar Singh' the main villain role  of that film played by Amjad Khan.
With Amitabh Bachchan he had many hits like 'Don,Sanjeer,Majboor,Shaan,Kala Patthar' etc.
In many films he acted as a part of Villain's gang and played mostly as a bad guy.He was one of the very few actors who could act in several films in his own name as the character's name.In several films his character name was as 
his real name 'Mac'.He delivered dialogues in all Indian languages except 'Oriya'.He could also act in Russian and Spanish films.
In films 'Hera Pheri,Chhailla Babu,Aap Ki Khatir,Don,Lahu Ke Do Rang,Qurbani,Aamne Samne,Sawaal,Mahaan,Jagir,Karishmaa,Avinash' etc his character name was 'Mac'.
In the film 'Aap Ki Khatir' in which Vinod Khanna and Rekha were the main pair, Mac Mohan's role was well noted.
In the film 'Don' (78) which was an action thriller film of Amitabh Bachchan 
Mac Mohan  was superb.
In the film 'Kala Patthar'(79) directed by Yash Chopra his role as 'Rana' can not be forgotten by film lovers.
He was married to an Ayurvedic Doctor 'Minny Makhijany'.He was maternal uncle of actress Ravina Tandon.
He passed away on May 10, 2010 in Mumbai.

Sundaram Balachander was an exponent in diversified fields and proved his abilities  as a Film director,Film actor,Music Composer,script writer,singer,musical instruments player,dancer etc.He was popularly known as 'Veenai S.Balachander' since he was an expert Veena(Sitar) player.He was younger brother of famous vocalist and actor S.Rajam and accompanied in several music concerts of him  playing Veena and the brothers were lovingly called as 'Lava Kusha'.
He was born on 18th January 1927 in Chennai as the son of Sundaram.  
On Sitar(Veena),  Balachander was fully fledged solo concert artist by the age of  twelve.He also learnt to play Tabla,Mridangam,Harmonium,Bulbul tarang,Dilruba and Shehnai.
He served as an artist at All India Radio,Chennai from the age of 15 for three years.
He along with his family members acted in the Tamil  film 'Seetha Kalyanam' in the year 1934 in which his elder brother S.Rajam acted as Shri Ram and elder sister S.Jayalakshmi acted as Sita.In that film he acted as a musician in Ravana's court.
He acted in films and composed music from late 1940's  to mid 1960's.
Balachander directed a number of Tamil films.
He acted in movies like Devaki(51),Rajambal(51),Rani(52),Inspector(53),Penn(54)Kodeeswaran (55)Doctor Savitri(55)Maragadham(59) etc.
He had acted, directed,composed music and sang in 'Idhu Nijama'(48),En Kanavan(48),Kaidhi(51) etc.
He directed a film 'Andha Naal' which was a classic film with no songs.
Other films directed includes 'Bhooloka Rambai(58) Avan Amaran (58) Edi Nijam' (56) etc.
In the film 'Penn' Gemini Ganesan,S.Balachander,Vyjayanthimala and Anjali Devi were the main actors.
In the Telugu remake of Tamil film 'Penn' as 'Sangham' he acted along with N.T.Rama Rao and Vyjayanthimala.
In the 1960's he formed his own production company in the name S.B.creations and made three movies 'Avana Ivan'(62), Bommai(64) and Nadu Iravil(65).He directed these films, composed music and sang songs also.
Bommai was a super hit film.
Many of his films were hits and super hits in those period.
He received certificate of Merit as Best feature film in Telugu for the film "Edi Nijam' in 1956.
He received 'Sangeetha Kalaskhamani' Award  from the Indian Fine Arts Society Chennai in the year 1982.
He was a recipient of 'Padma Bhushan' Award from Government of India.

He died on 15th April 1990.

In the history of Kannada Cinema, M.V.Subbaiah Naidu has a premier position and   will be ever remembered as the hero of the first Kannada language  talkie 'Sati Sulochana' which was released in 1934.
M.V.Subbaiah Naidu was born in the year 1896 at Madalapura in the Kingdom of Mysore.He became very popular as a Kannada stage artiste and worked in famous drama troupes of that period.
In 1932, a Marwari businessman, Chamanlal Doongjaji from Bangalore launched 'South India Movie tone'.The company made 'Sati Sulochana' the first talking picture in Kannada language.Yaragudipati Varada Rao directed the film which was shot at 'Chatrapathi  Cinetone,Kolhapur.The film was a blockbuster success which was also the first film to be screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom.
The film was based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and the hero character was 'Indrajit' the son of King Ravana.The lead role of Prince Indrajit was portrayed by M.V.Subbaiah Naidu, while Ravana was depicted by Nagendra Rao.'Sulochana, wife of Indrajit was played by 'Tripuramba'.The film was directed by 'Yaragudipati Varada Rao' who also acted in a character role in the film.R.Nagendra Rao who was another popular theatre artiste acted as Ravana  and Lakshmi Bai as Ravana's wife Mandodari.
'Bhakti' also known as 'Ambarishan Charitham' was a Tamil film based on a Kannada language play and it was released in 1938.Several Kannada actors acted in this Tamil film.Subbaiah Naidu,R.Nagendra Rao and Lakshmi Bai were the lead actors of this film.
'Vasanta Sena' was a Kannada film directed by Ramayyar in 1941.
Subbaiah Naidu and Nagendra Rao were in the main roles of this Kannada language film which was based on a Sanskrit paly.
In the 1943 film 'Satya Harishchandra' directed by A.T.Krishna Swamy and R.Nagendra Rao, Subbaiah Naidu portrayed the role of Rajah Harishchandra.
The film was successful at the box office.
In 1958 the film 'Bhakta Prahlada' was directed by Subbaiah Naidu and N.S.Krishna Swamy.Subbaiah Naidu acted in a major role of this film.
His son 'Lokesh' was a famous Kannada film actor.
M.V.Subbaiah Naidu passed away on 21st July 1962

S.Rajam was a very popular Carnatic Vocalist who possessed diversified talents in photography and painting.In his youth he was a Tamil film actor also

 who acted in main roles of a few films.
He was born in Mylapore, Chennai in 1919 in an art loving musical family.His brother Veenai S.Balachander was also an expert musician and film actor.
As a photographer, S.Rajam's  pictures of temples are considered to be of good quality.
He was a staff of All India Radio and he was responsible for including Carnatic music lessons on AIR.
He was trained in Classical music from legends like 'Ariyakudi,Papanasam Sivan,Madurai Mani Aiyer' etc.He along with his broither Veena S.Balachander gave dual concerts in several parts of India and were known as 'Lava Kusa'.S.Rajam was blessed with a powerful rich voice.He popularized 'Kritis' of 'Koteeswara Iyer' in his concerts.
His students included renowned musicians like M.S.Subbulakshmi and M.L.Vasantha Kumari.
He was recipient of Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award,Sangeetha Kalacharya Award and many more.
In the year 1934 film legend V.Shantaram of Prabhat Film Company of Kolhapur, had an idea of making a Tamil film utilizing the sets of a Marathi film 'Sairandhri' put in his studio.'Sairandhri' was not a success and he thought of gaining the loss from the Tamil film.He wrote to film magazine 'Sound and Shadow' of Chennai about his proposed idea of making a Tamil film utilizing the sets of 'Sairandhri'.Seshagiri Iyer who was one of the partner of 'Sound and Shadow' magazine was a close friend of Rajam's father.Rajam's father offered his willingness to act in that film with his family members.Thus the family members including their music guru 'Papanasam Sivan' went to Kolhapur and acted in the Hindu mythological film 'Seetha Kalyanam' in 1934.
S.Rajam acted as Sri Rama,his sister 'S.Jayalakshmi' played the role of Seetha, another sister S.Saraswathi played the role of Urmila,Seshagiri Iyer played Ravana,
Rajam's father Sundaram Iyer portrayed Janaka,T.V.Seetharama Iyer played Dasaratha,P.Vekat Rao acted as Viswamitra and Rajam's younger brother Veena S.Balachander acted as a musician in Ravana's court.
The film was directed by Baburao Phendharkar.
Next year he acted as Lord Krishna in 'Radha Kalyanam' and again in 1936 acted as Krishna in  'Rugmini Kalyanam' which was directed by a Marathi film director.
Seetha Kalyanam was the first film of 'Papanasam Sivan' and he wrote the lyrics and composed music for the film.
S.Rajam passed away in 2010 at the age of 91.

R.Nagendra Rao, a pioneer of Kannada Cinema was also one of the most influential personalities of South Indian Films.He was a theatre actor,screenwriter,occasional music composer,film director,film actor and producer.
He worked mainly for Kannada films but also acted in Tamil and Telugu movies.
He was born on 23 June 1896 in the Kingdom of Mysore.In the beginning of his acting career as a thetre artiste he played female characters but soon switched over to male roles.With the advent of talkies he went to Mumbai to sought chance in films.Rajah Sandow gave him roles in his Tamil movies and thus acted in  films  'Parijatha Pushpaharanam' in 1932 and again in another film 'Narada' in the same year.
He acted as the lead character in the Tamil film 'Kovalan' in 1933 and and in lead role of Telugu film 'Ramadasu' in 1933.
Then he returned to Bangalore and started a drama troupe in the name 'Sahitya Samrajya Drama Company'.
He compelled a business friend 'Shah Chamanlal Doongaji' to produce a Kannada talkie film and the First Talkie In Kannada Language 'Sati Sulochana' was released  on March 3, 1934.

It was made based on Ramayana and the protagonist in the film was 'Indrajith', the son of Ravana  whom

 was played by 'Subbaih Naidu'.The role of Ravana was depicted by R.Nagendra Rao.Tripuramba  played female lead role.
The film was directed by a Telugu director ''Yaragudipati Varadarao' who also acted as Lakshmana in the film.Lakshmi Bai acted as Mandodari, Rama's role was acted by Murthy Rao.C.V.Seshachalam played the role of Narada.
In 1935 he acted in a Tamil film 'Naveena Sadarame'.
Rao's play 'Bhukailasa' was thrice made into films.In 1938 and 1940 by Sundar Rao Nadkarni and in 1958 by K.Shankar.
In 1941 he wrote screenplay and produced Kannada  film 'Vasantasena' in which he acted in a supporting role. 
He produced and directed the film 'Sathya Harishchandra' in 1943 and acted in it.This film was his first venture as a director.

In 1949 he acted in a Tamil movie 'Apoorva Sahodarargal' which was remade in Telugu in 1950.
In 1956 he acted in the film 'Chandirani' which was made in Tamil,Telugu and Hindi.
He acted in 1956 in the Telugu film 'Bhakta Markandeya'
In 1951 he started his own production Company .In 1957 the film 'Premada Putri' which was produced under this banner received National Award as best feature film in Kannada.He was the director of the film and acted in supporting role also.The film was made in Telugu also.
In the year 1962 he acted in the Kannada film 'Gaali Gopura' which  was made in Telugu also.
In the year 1968 he received Karnataka State Best Actor Award for his excellent  acting skill  in the Kannada film 'Hannele Chiguridaga'.This film was directed by M.R.Vittal.Lead actor of this film was Raj Kumar.
His last film was in Kannada 'Prof.Huchuraya' in 1974.
He had four Children and three of them entered film field.His son R.N.Krishna Prasad as Cinematographer,R.N.Jayagopal as Screenwriter and Lyricist,youngest son R.N.Sudarshan as actor.
R.Nagendra Rao received 'Padma Shri' from Government of India in the year 1976.
R.Nagendra Rao passed away on 9th February 1977.

Om Shivpuri was a well acclaimed theatre actor and director who later became a Hindi film actor. He brilliantly portrayed character roles and villain roles   in large number of films for two decades.
He was born in Rajasthan in  the year 1938 and got polished his  intrinsic acting talents from the National School of Drama, New Delhi.At the NSD he had contemporaries  like Roshan Seth,Pankaj Kapoor,Sushma Seth etc.He led National School of Drama Repertory setup in 1964 and acted in their dramas also.He directed 'Tuglaq' a play written by Girish Karnad in 1965 which was first staged at National School of Drama.
His  wife Sudha Shivpuri was also a student of National School of Drama  in the same batch and later they worked together at Jaipur Radio Station and participated together in Radio plays etc.They got married in 1968 and both of them together started a  theatre  group by name 'Dishantar' and Om Sivpuri directed several plays which were all successes.For all the shows of their plays there were heavy rush and tickets were usually sold in black also. 
Om Shivpuri  entered films in 1971 by Mani Kaul's film 'Ashad Ka Ek Din' followed by Gulzar's 'Koshish' in 1972.In the critically acclaimed hit film 'Koshish' which told the story of a  deaf-mute couple and they  were depicted by Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri in an exceptional manner. As a supporting actor Om Shivpuri added much contribution in this film  as a blind man who was  a friend of those  couple.
There after in a career spanning for two decades he depicted strong characters like 'Jamindars,Smuggler,Doctor,Paternal Uncle,Father of hero or heroine,Police Inspector,Police Commissioner,Military Officers' etc etc.
He played  important roles in 31 films of Rajesh Khanna.
Om Shivpuri acted in more than 175 Hindi films in his career in varied roles.
In the film 'Namak Haram' he acted along with Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna and the film was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
In the critically acclaimed film 'Aandhi'(75) directed by Gulzar Om Shivpuri acted as 'Chandrasen'.
He acted in a cameo role as Inspector  in 'Sholay'.

In the hit film 'Balika Badhu' he acted as hero Amal's(Sachin) father.
He acted as College Principal in Kitab(77) and 'Swarg Narak'(78).He  played the role of a priest in 'Karm'(77).
In the film 'Dhyanu Bhagat(78) directed by Dara Singh he depicted Emperor Akbar.
In the film 'Saboot' he acted along with the pair Navin Nischol and Vidya Sinha.
He acted along with Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini in the super hit film 'Bandish' which was directed by K.Bapaiah.
In the super hit film of Rajesh Khanna and Tina Munim 'Fifty Fifty'(1981) he acted in the role as 'Bihari'.
He was CBI Officer in the Jeetendra-Hema Malini pair film 'Meri Awaz Suno' in 1981.
In the film 'Disco Dancer' of Mithun Chakraborthy in 1982 he acted as Manager P.N.Oberoi.
He was Police Commissioner in 1991 film 'Khilaf' and in 1993 film 'Police Wala'.
His daughter Ritu Shivpuri is a Bollywood actress and son Vineet Shivpuri is assistant film director.His wife Sudha Shivpuri acts in TV serials at present.
Om Shivpuri died on 15th October 1990 at Mumbai due to heart attack.
