JOSE PRAKASH

Jose Prakash was the most  impressive and good looking  villain actor of Malayalam Cinema. The magnificence
in his acting style and the magniloquence of his dialogue presentation was well appreciated. He manifested
mostly villainous roles, as a smuggler, rich businessman who would be bad in all ways, corrupt politician, or other higher-ups in society. He used to
appear on screen in stylish costumes and with a burning pipe in his mouth. His characters mostly lead a lavish
life speaking English dialogues also which he rendered always with perception. In several films he appeared in dignified roles as good characters also.
In the 60's and 70's there were several C.I.D type films made just for entertainment purpose by commercial
directors like Sasi Kumar,A.B.Raj etc in which Prem Nazir was the hero and in many of them Jose Prakash
acted as the villain.Women and children of those period hated him a lot because of the cruelties he showed with
perfection when manifesting those reprobate characters.
Even though his characters were cruel, anti social elements but  in real life Jose Prakash was a very nice person, a
home loving family man, successful businessman and humanist.
Jose Prakash was born on 14 April 1925 at Changanasserry to parents Joseph and Eliamma. He had his school studies at Sacred Heart Mount English School,Kottayam and joined in the Military Service after schooling.
He was interested in songs and could sing beautifully and during the military service he could mingle with  people from other states and got practiced in Hindi Songs and English songs also. After seven years in the Army
he left the job and reached Kerala and started Tea Business. While doing tea distribution business he was involving in the programs of local clubs etc and sang songs on stages. At Kottayam he sang on the stage for a

writer Thickurissi Sukumaran Nair was among the audience and he invited Jose Prakash to sing songs for his
next movie 'Sario Thetto'.At that time Jose Prakash was known by his original name 'Baby' and it was Thickurissi who made him 'Jose Prakash'.In the film 'Sario Thetto'(1953) he got chance to act in a small role also.Afterwards he sang in some other films and acted in small roles..His second film was 'Alphonsa' of Geo pictures.
Jose Prakash got a chance to present the title role as hero of  the drama  'Snapaka Yohannan' presented by    a Professional drama
troupe of Kottayam during that period. That story was filmed by P.Subramanyam, who was  eminent film  producer, studio owner and director and he determined to  make Jose Prakash who was the hero in the drama  as the hero in the film 'Snapaka Yohannan'  also and Jose Prakash excelled well in it. That film  turned to be a big blockbuster film of  1963 and  it was a huge success in the  box office..Jose Prakash became
very famous because of the title role as Snapaka Yohannan which was liked by the audience  and so he  got established as an important   Malayalam film actor  and got continuous offers from other films  for  notable  roles.

He concentrated on acting only later on  and did not try to sing again in films.Jose Prakash acted as hero in other films 'Achante Bharya and Sapa Moksham' also.
Director Sasikumar offered him the villain role for the first time in his film 'Love in Kerala' which was a super hit film  and people loved Jose Prakash's acting as  a  villain. He was called for Villainous roles mostly afterwards
which he could portray nicely always.
He entered film production also in the banner 'Prakash Movie Tone' and produced  films 'Koodevide, Aayiram Kannukal, Eeran Sandhya' etc and later that production house was handed over to his brother
Prem Prakash.
Jose Prakash excelled very well in the T.V.Serial 'Mikhayelinte Santhathikal' which he handled role as 'Mikhael' which was center  character role   and
he received Kerala Government Award for  that serial.

Appoontem' he acted recently in the film 'Traffic' directed by Rajesh Pillai which became a super hit which
was scripted  by 'Sanjay and Bobby who are sons of film Producer Prem Prakash who is Jose Prakash's
younger brother. He was having good friendship with actor 'Jayan' and it was Jose Prakash who changed the name Krishnan Nair as 'Jayan' which was a suitable  screen name for him..Like that actor Kamal Hassan also kept good relationship  with Jose Prakash and  he met Jose Prakash  at the Hospital some days  before his death..In the film 'Sathyavan Savithri' Kamal Hassan acted as the son of Jose Prakash and Kaviyoor Ponnamma. That friendship ended till the last breath of Jose Prakash.Kamal Hassan had also acted in 'Alavudeenum Alphutha Vilakkum,Mattuvin Chattangale, and Kuttavum Sikshayum' with Jose Prakash.
